Neil Young and “Crazy Horse”
Written by bnbrainer on 11 May 2012
She’ll Be Comin’ ‘Round the Mountain premiere. Neil Young and Crazy Horse still have it. Turning and dancing.
Jesus Chariot liner notes:
Written in the 1800s based on an old Negro spiritual, this song refers to the second coming of Jesus and “she” is the chariot Jesus is coming on. Some interpret this as the end of the world. Others have said that “she” refers to union organizer Mary Harris “Mother” Jones going to promote formation of labor unions in the Appalachian coal mining camps. The Americana arrangement continues the folk process with a new melody, a new title and a combination of lyric sources.

untracked version is here.
“This song, as with all the songs on the record, have been paired up with archival footage. This footage is from an early scene in D.W. Griffith’s controversial 1915 film Birth of a Nation, in which the Southern Cameron family hosts a farewell ball for soldiers fighting for the Confederacy.

Neil writes on his neilyoung.com/news “NY Times”:

For those of you who want to hear 100 %, of the audio, the Americana Bluray is the place to get it. Even the new “mastered for I-tunes” tracks available of CrazyHorse’s Americana will have only 5% of the original audio while the CD has just 15%. The Bluray has 100%. On the Bluray you can hear all of the nuances of the CrazyHorse sound exactly as recorded by John Hanlon at Audio Casablanca Studio. If you want the best, now you have a choice. The Americana Bluray also contains 12 videos of the Americana songs, with an alternate version of “Clementine,” plus documentary footage of the Americana choir as it was being recorded at East West Studios in LA.
The only other place to get the quality audio is the vinyl Americana, which originates from the original audio masters.
Click here to see the Audio Casablanca studio as it plays back “Horseback,” although you will not be hearing the audio quality on this lo res MP3 stream. ”
This is actually the 37 min version of “Horseback”, linked here recently; it has parts of Cortez et al.

A fullmoon always inspires Neil Young to record new stuff…
Nancy Dunham on May 2 writes:
“…My view is that anyone who can make songs such as “She’ll be Coming ‘Round the Mountain” cool again and introduce classic songs to a new generation is a genius, in my view.
As a sidenote, Young and his band are now recording another album presumably of original material, according to his reps. Watch for it, hopefully later this year.
You can find out more about “Americana” and pre-order the June 5 release from Young’s website.”

This is the original source of the Americana cover. Apparently you see Chief Geromino.
Bill explains: the surviving kin of Geronimo are sueing for return of his remains, stolen by the skull and bones society of the Russell opium trust. The remains are at yale and one of the alleged robbers is non other than Prescott Bush.
