Lockn’ Festival

Lockn’ Festival

When asked if Neil Young & Crazy Horse would be performing at this year’s Lockn’, Frey replied:

We’ve made a very aggressive offer for Neil Young & Crazy Horse to return, and hopefully play this time. Crazy Horse has confirmed dates in Europe prior to our dates and Neil has confirmed Farm Aid a week afterward. We are hopeful that Neil decides to do this again. Therefore we’re going to wait as long as it takes for him to let us know.

Neil plans “Honor the Treaties” benefit concerts, & London in summer

neil_young_glasto09_ge_12Neil Young announced Monday that he will perform four benefit concerts in his native Canada to raise funds for a legal defense fund supporting the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation in “challenges against oil companies and government that are obstructing their traditional lands and rights,” according to a press release, and published in USA Today.

The “Honor the Treaties” shows — a title referring to the last and largest of 19th century land agreements between First Nation and the government of Canada, guaranteeing protection of the ACFN’s lands, rights and ecosystems — will be staged in January. Young will be joined by fellow Canadian artist Diana Krall as special guest.

The concerts will take place Jan. 12 in Toronto, Jan. 16 in Winnipeg, Jan. 17 in Regina and Jan. 19 in Calgary. Tickets go on sale Tuesday.

City and Colour to open Ottawa Fest-replace Neil & the Horse

The Ottawa Citizen has announced that City and Colour will replace Neil Young and Crazy Horse at the Ottawa Folk Festival on Sept. 4.

The Juno-winning band led by Canadian singer-songwriter Dallas Green has agreed to step into the headlining slot of the festival’s opening night, the newspaper writes.

Organizers had to scramble after losing Young, who cancelled his North American dates to give guitarist Frank “Poncho” Sampedro more time to heal after breaking his hand earlier this month.

“It’s definitely been a challenging week, but I’d say I’m very pleased that Dallas Green (City and Colour) could accommodate us on such short notice,” says festival executive/programming director Mark Monahan in a news release. “He’ll make a great opening night for the festival.”

Young’s tour mate, Patti Smith, will also perform, as originally scheduled, accompanied by her band.
