Mother Earth on Pumpy

Mother EarthThis video from the Neil Young channel is being passed around social media.

Comments are declaring it’s the best version ever done on “Old Pumpy.”

The filming itself is also excellent, great shot of Neil playing from above.

Young added lyrics to the song, which originally appeared on his album Ragged Glory. “Respect Mother Earth and her healing ways,” he sings. “Don’t trade away our children’s days.” The Honour The Treaties concerts –held in Toronto, Regina, Winnipeg and Calgary — raised funds for the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation Legal Defense Fund. It also sparked debate among Canadians about the oilsands and some criticism of Young.

UPDATE, 30 Jan 2014: The video was taken down by Warner Bast. due to a copyright claim. Elliot will be happy, but not Neil, we think. Thank god it’s saved in the Undernets.

video: Pocahontas, Winnipeg

Pocahontas_Winnipeg-pumporgan_2014

Neil Young Set List: 2014-01-16, Honour The Treaties Benefit, Centennial Concert Hall, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

on pump organ, with the now famous line:

“Ann Margret, Pocahontas and me.

Stephen Harper, Pocahontas and me.”

Reviewing the show in the Winnipeg Free Press, Jen Zoratti wrote: “…there were only supporters in the house that night, and Young let the music speak for him in an intimate, solo-acoustic show that shone in its quietest, creakiest moments. With his face obscured by his now-iconic black hat, the Canadian icon reminded us just why he’s one of the best songwriters the world has known. He kicked it old school in a set that spent a lot of time revisiting his commercial peak of the 1970s, playing classic after classic.”

Neil Young screens “Petropolis”

Fort-McMurray_Alberta_oilsands

A Greenpeace movie that Neil Young will present during the week’s concerts at Honor-The-Treaties. Neil said “Petropolis”  was “probably the most devastating thing you will ever see.”

A trailer and more info can be found here:

http://www.petropolis-film.com/#

Shot primarily from a helicopter, filmmaker Peter Mettler’s “Petropolis: Aerial Perspectives on the Alberta Tar Sands” offers an unparalleled view of the world’s largest industrial, capital and energy project.

Canada’s tar sands are an oil reserve the size of England. Extracting the crude oil called bitumen from underneath unspoiled wilderness requires a massive industrialized effort with far-reaching impacts on the land, air, water, and climate.

It’s an extraordinary spectacle, whose scope can only be understood from far above. In a hypnotic flight of image and sound, one machine’s perspective upon the choreography of others, suggests a dehumanized world where petroleum’s power is supreme.
